Great ride, many hours, weird little town, Floyd, VA
Woke up to crazy fog at 5:30 AM and was on the road in full rain gear by 6:30. Turns out I didn’t need the rain gear of course but that’s why you wear it…
2 hours to Waynesboro and then a gas up and a waffle up.
Then on to the parkway (after trying 3 different exits). After yesterday, this first few minutes was pure joy.
The views were incredible and the day got better as it went.
The ride was all it was cracked up to be. Constant panoramas and curves, changes of elevation, no traffic to speak of. This is an incredible project done during the depression to give VA and NC a bit of what TN got. It’s a masterpiece of road building solely for the purpose of enjoyment. I read that the workers on the road referred to it as ‘The Scenic’. Still works.
Finally ended the long day in Floyd, VA, a tiny little town and I think I’m the only guest at the Pine Tavern lodge. Quaint though.
Up early and back on the BRP. May stay in Ashville or may shoot on to deal’s gap.
